Michael Jowkar, PhD, is a Psychology Resident in North Dakota. His areas of expertise include trauma treatment, couples therapy, and a wide variety of anxiety and depressive disorders.

Dr. Jowkar received his PhD in clinical psychology from the University of North Dakota. He then completed his pre-doctoral internship at the Ann Arbor VA in Michigan, working in the PTSD, general mental health, sleep, and pain clinics. Dr. Jowkar is an Air Force veteran and has experience working with individuals who have complicated psychiatric and medical histories. He is supervised by Chuck Welke, PhD, LP (individual clients) and Dave Jackson, PhD, LP (couples clients).

Dr. Jowkar believes in person-centered therapies that utilize effective interventions, which are flexible enough to meet the needs of his clients. He realizes that while psychology has many effective, research-based interventions, many important areas of human growth and development remain less understood and require a more open-ended approach, one that does not rely on definitive answers. He believes in empowering clients to make changes that are meaningful to them without pushing his own agenda.

Dr. Jowkar offers Emotionally Focused Therapy for couples and individuals, prolonged exposure and cognitive processing therapy for PTSD, and anxiety/depression treatment that incorporates elements of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Existential Therapy.

Having grown up in the Midwest, Dr. Jowkar is excited to support the community he calls home by providing individualized and compassionate care. Outside of work, he is raising his two cats, Oliver and Elmer, and pursuing one of his many nerdy hobbies.
